Several restaurants across Colorado are participating in Black Restaurant Week, a multi-state initiative designed to amplify customer traffic at black-owned food businesses. The program leverages community partnerships to host marketing campaigns that elevate the profile of these businesses. The decision to regionalize the initiative was prompted by COVID-19 and the ensuing struggles faced by numerous businesses.
Falayn Ferrell, Black Restaurant Week’s managing partner, said the approach aimed to reach lesser-known markets within the Black culinary scene and bring them into the wider conversation. Ferrell pointed to the lack of data within the industry as a significant issue and said efforts were underway to obtain more robust numbers, aiming to better understand the challenges and successes of Black-owned restaurants.
The Southwest region’s Black Restaurant Week, which started on March 15, includes Colorado. Participating businesses include Endless Grind Coffee in Aurora, owned by Hewan Kassa and Freweyni Beyene. The pair expressed enthusiasm about the event and the potential to attract more customers. March 24 marks the end of Black Restaurant Week for the Southwest region.
