Domino’s Pizza, the world’s largest pizza company, has come forward with a surprising act of stunt marketing. The company is donating a $25,000 grant to Anchorage for snow plowing in the city. The initiative comes as part of Domino’s campaign to clear unplowed roads to ensure that hot pizza deliveries are not disrupted.
The campaign, “Plowing for Pizza”, began after record-breaking snowfall in Anchorage disrupted the city’s snow removal system, leading to extended school closures. Responding to Domino’s call to nominate towns for plowing assistance, numerous Anchorage locals put forward nominations, which led to the city winning the grant.
According to Veronica Hoxie, spokesperson for Anchorage’s Mayor Dave Bronson, the grant agreement was signed last week. However, technical hurdles have to be crossed before the funds can be transferred. Once the financial transaction is completed, the $25,000 grant will provide the equivalent of approximately 900 operator hours for the city’s street maintenance crews.
Though the grant may not make a significant difference in the city’s overall snow plowing needs, Hoxie acknowledged it as a “fun little, you know, unique funding mechanism”. A condition for accepting the grant includes the sharing of photos and video of the plowing operations, which will be featured on Domino’s “Plowing for Pizza” website.
