Grit Marketing, a direct door-to-door sales company, is being sued by 18 former sales reps for unpaid commissions totalling approximately 1.4 million dollars. The company had a highly successful year in 2023, reporting earnings of 95 million dollars and boasting about their philanthropy and new office space, despite alleged claims that it stopped paying its salespeople.
These claims were formalized when 18 nearly identical lawsuits were filed in Salt Lake’s 3rd District Court in mid-February. Plaintiffs claim they are owed between 10,000 and 250,000 dollars each, adding up to a total of 1.4 million dollars. Among the plaintiffs are several college-aged men for whom the unpaid commissions represent significant amounts of money.
Grit Marketing, founded in 2020, follows the model of a mercenary sales force, recruiting and training sales reps to sell on behalf of other companies, specifically pest control firms. The company was rapidly successful, earning tens of millions of dollars in its first year and partnering with Utah Jazz in 2022. The company promises wild revenue growth to its partner companies and pitches financial literacy and huge earning potentials as benefits to its sales reps.
The company has been served in each case filed by the 18 plaintiffs but has not yet responded. Executives and representatives for Grit Marketing have also not responded to requests for comment.
